Tired of exercising indoors? Soak up the fresh air with an outdoor workout or two.

After spending a large part of the year holed up indoors, it’s no surprise that many of us are choosing outdoor workouts in place of studio sessions and virtual fitness classes. Fresh air and sunlight, along with stunning sunset or sunrise views, can be a respite for those feeling overwhelmed and weary from the ongoing pandemic.

If you’re eyeing your next outdoor workout, here are some great picks.

UFIT

Helmed by more than 100 coaches and clinicians, the health and fitness company offers not just personal training and boot camps, but also physiotherapy and rehabilitation services. Since starting outdoor running classes in 2011, they’ve also launched a variety of workout classes held at places like Fort Canning Park, Sentosa Cove, and Botanical Gardens. Priced at about S$30 each, the classes include HIIT, yoga, and strength-building.

Urban Yogis

Specialising in immersive yoga experiences including classes and retreats, the yoga brand offers weekly community classes—priced from S$10, at scenic spots across Singapore. On Monday mornings, there’s a yoga and resistance exercise class held by the Bedok Reservoir waterfront. Meanwhile, Tuesdays and Thursdays see sunset yoga sessions at the Marina Bay Sands Boardwalk. Art lovers can also check out their limited-time Yoga in Bloom sessions held amidst the Dale Chihuly: Glass in Bloom exhibition at the Gardens by the Bay.

Level Singapore

Known for their expertise in personal training and rehabilitation services, Level offers outdoor boot camp sessions at The Lawn, Marina Bay. Set against the backdrop of Singapore’s skyline, each class is done classic boot camp style, with plenty of squats, lunges, crawls, and sprints. Expect to break out a sweat with high-intensity moves and cardio-based exercises in each 45-minute session. Those feeling icky about the dirt are encouraged to bring their own yoga mat or towel. Regular class packs can be used for both in-studio and outdoor classes, starting from S$40 per class.

Virgin Active

Offering a change of scenery from studios and home-based Zoom sessions, Virgin Active’s SkyPark Yoga is set on the 57th floor of the iconic Marina Bay Sands. Scheduled at either sunrise or sunset, 16 classes a week will be led by the international health club chain’s yoga instructors. Each 45-minute class is designed to be fully immersive—participants are equipped with a set of professional wireless headphones that allow them to receive clear instructions from the yoga teacher no matter which posture they’re in.
