Voices of Empowerment: Christmas Charity Event and Wellness Challenge

by Voices Wellness 09 Nov 2021

Celebrate the festivities by paying it forward and empowering individuals with diverse needs.

As we usher in the yuletide season of this trying year, Voices Wellness is keeping its eye on what truly matters—unity and inclusivity. In partnership with functional fashion retailer Will & Well, we’ll be raising funds and empowering individuals with diverse needs through a donation drive, a three-day wellness challenge, and a series of charity auctions.

Happening from November 14 to December 12, Voices of Empowerment aims to raise awareness about the basic needs of marginalised groups by equipping them with clothes that will improve their lives. As a homegrown company big on design thinking and technology, Will & Well creates apparel that provides comfort, dignity, and independence for people with disabilities. Think two-way blouses with Velcro closures that allow for easy dressing, easy-to-wear trousers with full-length zips on each side, and arm slings that convert into a sling bag when you’ve recovered.

“How often do you struggle to pull up the zip at the back of your dress or fumble with the buttons on your shirt cuffs? Now think about how difficult these daily routines are for those with physical challenges because of age, illness, or disability,” says Elisa Lim, founder of Will & Well.

With the belief that functional apparel is as important as daily necessities like food and household items, this campaign aims to gift benefactors with a sense of empowerment in their daily lives. Currently, benefactors include people nominated under Will & Well’s #BeTheDifference list, who are waiting for an outfit to be sponsored—these include individuals with muscular dystrophy and amputated limbs.

Cheryl Lee, co-founder of Voices Wellness says, “It’s about creating fun, meaningful, and charitable activities for our community to engage in during the season of giving. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to spread awareness about the basic needs of marginalised groups that most may not even know about.”

To participate, members of the public are invited to accept the Voices of Empowerment wellness challenge by making any donation amounting to S$20 or above between November 14 to December 12 on our upcoming fundraiser page (link will go live on November 14). From December 10 to 12, the three-day wellness challenge will run on Voices Wellness’ Instagram page (@voiceswellness), featuring themes like fitness and paying-it-forward.

Participants will respond to each day’s challenge prompt by taking a photo or video to show what they’ve done and posting it on their feed, using the hashtag #VoicesofEmpowerment, as well as following and tagging @voiceswellness, @willandwell, and all prize sponsors.

Throughout the campaign period, a series of charity auctions will also be held on Voices Wellness’ Instagram page to raise funds for Will & Well’s benefactors. On November 20, a Scott OTG 20 Fixie Single Speed bike (size small) from Khcycle will be up for bidding; on November 27, pampering spa vouchers from The Ultimate Spa will be up for grabs; while on December 4, one can stand to win a private baking class with Debbra Lee of Bisou Bake Shop.
