Soak up the yuletide festivities with a visit to the annual Gardens by the Bay Christmas Wonderland. By SAMANTHA FRANCIS.

After going virtual in last year’s edition, Gardens by the Bay Christmas Wonderland will be returning in its full glory from December 3, 2021, to January 2, 2021. Those hoping to soak up the festivities with their loved ones can look forward to strolling through light displays, challenging themselves to carnival games, and shopping for gifts at the Mistletoe Alley Market. The main highlight? A double-storey Venetian carousel that’s not just reminiscent of those you find in Europe but is also hand-painted by European craftsmen.

Be prepared to whip out your cameras for eight light displays, including Walk of Stars; a 44-metre-long tunnel filled with colourful star-shaped LED lights, Tinsel Castle; a 10-metre-tall fort right out of a fairy-tale, Enchanted Bridge; a 30-metre-long bridge in glittering gold and backdropped by the Supertrees; as well the perennial favourite that is the Magical Carriage. Hailing from Italy, the seven-storey high Spalliera promises a captivating sight.

Along the way, don’t forget to make a pitstop at the Mistletoe Alley Market, a European-style collection of retail huts featuring vendors like Candescent Box, Dollop Photobooths, Happy Hut, Sofnade, and more. To up the festive spirit, make a beeline for carnival games like bowling, Fishy Fishy, Blockbuster, and Darts, for a chance at winning attractive prizes.

Meanwhile, little ones hoping to meet Father Christmas can head to La Casa di Santa Claus for a photo opportunity or two. Those who’d like to belt out their favourite Christmas songs (from under their masks) can head to the nightly Garden Rhapsody light and sound show. To ensure crowd control, visitors will have to pre-purchase tickets (from S$7) online and book one of four sessions daily, with hourly slots from 630pm to 1030pm.

Lee Kok Fatt, deputy chief executive officer, Gardens by the Bay said: “The holiday season is a special time of the year for many Singaporeans, and, as a garden for all, we want to be able to celebrate with the community by offering something for everyone. With the exciting line-up at Christmas Wonderland, coupled with our popular Poinsettia Wishes floral display and festive programmes at the Gardens, we hope Singaporeans can spend some quality time with their family and friends as the year comes to a close. Let’s continue to look out for one another and keep to the safe management measures, so everyone can have an enjoyable and safe time these holidays.”
