An Easy Guide to Drinking Fruit-infused Water

These fruit infuser bottles make for tastier and easier hydration on-the-go. By LYDIA KWON.

Up to 60 percent of the human body is water, which means that the average adult needs to drink approximately two to three litres daily for sufficient hydration. For those who find the taste of water bland and boring, fruit-infused water could improve the relationship they have with this essential liquid.

While water doesn’t typically take on high levels of nutrients or vitamins through the infusion process (unless you squeeze the fruit to release juices), fruits and herbs nonetheless help to impart flavour, making it a great alternative to sugary drinks.

Using a fruit infuser bottle is pretty straightforward—simply cut up your favourite fruits and place them into the bottle before filling it with water. The result is fruity-flavoured and refreshing water that could motivate you to hydrate often.

Top tips to note:

Freeze your fruit

Consider using frozen fruit so that your ingredients stay fresher for longer, especially if you’re bringing your bottle out under the sun.

Attain full-bodied flavour

Homemade fruit-flavoured waters should be infused for up to 12 hours, if not left in the fridge overnight for maximum flavour. If you’re using herbs like mint or basil, tear and crush the leaves before adding them in.

Mixing it up

Generally, citrus fruits, melons, berries, mint, and fresh ginger make good options. We particularly like this strawberry, lemon and basil recipe. For some fizz in your beverage, use natural sparkling water.
